Mitochondria from mouse preputial glands incubated with 1‐ 14 C‐myristic acid and appropriate co‐factors produced, after LiAlH 4 reduction, a compound that resembled a glycerol ether. However, close examination of this material showed that it was not an ether, and we tentatively identified the original compound as a phosphorylated β‐keto (or β‐hydroxy) fatty acid.
