Abstract Phosphorus‐containing organic‐compounds combine directly with molybdate to form complexes analogous to phosphomolybdate. These complexes are extractable by organic solvents such as ethyl acetate or butanol. The ability of chloroform‐ethanol mixtures in extracting only the phospholipid‐molybdate complexes but not those of water‐soluble phosphates may find some useful applications.
