Diesters have been isolated from the leaf wax of spring wheat, Triticum aestivum , L. (Selkirk variety) by chromatography. The diesters, which form 3% of the wax and which were shown by gas liquid chromatography to be a mixture of C 51 −C 60 esters, consist largely of trans 2‐docosenoic and trans 2‐tetracosenoic acid esters of 1,9‐nonanediol, 1,10‐decanediol, 1,11‐undecanediol and 1,12‐dodecanediol. The structures of the components were confirmed by synthesis.
