Abstract Infrared spectra and x‐ray diffraction photographs have been recorded for some normal‐chain esters of long chain acids and long chain alcohols. The substances show no polymorphism but two different structure types exist, one with the chains tilting towards the end group planes and one with vertical chains. The IR spectra permit determination of the chain length of the acid methylene chain. The length of the alcohol chain cannot be deduced.
