Abstract Mevalonate synthesis in rat liver can occur not only from HMG‐CoA utilizing particle‐bound HMG‐CoA reductase, but from malonyl‐CoA utilizing soluble enzymes. From a strictly quantitative standpoint, synthesis from malonyl‐CoA appears to be of minor importance. The possible regulatory significance of two parallel routes to mevalonate is discussed.
