Variable concentrations of [I 14 C] linoleic acid and [I 14 C] eicosa‐8,11,14‐trienoic acid were incubated with liver microsomes in a medium containing the necessary cofactors for fatty acid desaturation. The conversion of linoleic into γ‐linolenic acid and eicosatrienoic into arachidonic acid were mutually inhibited and the inhibition depended on the concentration of the fatty acids incubated.
