Primate conservation can be achieved by a variety of approaches. We suggest that the most productive avenue is a collaborative effort between researchers studying animals in the field and in captivity. Coupling information gained from research on the natural history of primate reproduction with technological advances developed for assessing reproductive profiles of primates could enhance primate conservation. We conclude that the natural reproduction of primates in captive situations is essential for primate conservation and is best achieved by collaborative ventures between field and laboratory workers.
