Abstract Skulls of identified individual Asian rhinos from zoos were compared with wild‐shot skulls of the same species to detect any captivity‐induced changes. Rhinoceros unicornis and Rhinoceros sondaicus are typically stunted by captivity, while Dicerorhinus sumatrensis is not and may even be affected in the opposite manner, becoming giant. The consequences for husbandry are discussed.
