In this article, the work of H. Hencky: “On the theory of plastic deformations and the residual stresses caused by them in the material” (Zur Theorie plastischer Deformationen und der hierdurch im Material hervorgerufenen Nachspannungen), which he presented in April 1924 at the first International Conference for Applied Mechanics in Delft and which in the same year appeared at ZAMM, is explained, commented on and placed in the context of the further development of plasticity theory.
