A dynamical contact problem describing the mechanical and thermal evolution of an elastic rod with voids and microtemperatures is investigated. The contact is modeled by the classical Signorini condition. The existence of a weak solution is shown by a penalization method and the energy associated to the system is proved to decay exponentially as time goes to infinity.
