Consistent‐inconsistent decomposition to initial value problem of descriptor linear systems is proposed. In this way the impulse part in the system response is clearly separated from the smooth part, and the phenomenon that inconsistency causes impulse is interpreted more perfectly. The decomposition is discussed also for time‐varying case.
