Belt transmissions as used in the power train of vehicles with CVT run under very high clamping forces that lead to significant deformations. A constant slip between belt and the variator pulley is a direct result of these deformations. The following calculation focuses on the mechanics of a single variator disk. The analytical modulation enables to calculate all body forces inside the variator system. The result shows, that the deformation of the transmission parts has no influence on the optimum clamping force. More than that, it can be shown that the body friction has no influence on the transmissions efficiency. It will be possible to calculate maximum reachable efficiency of the variator and the clamping that it will occur at.
