The paper is aimed at active damping of structural vibrations of a simply supported beam by using multiple piezoelectric patches as collocated sensors and actuators. The control concept is based on the velocity as well as proportional‐velocity feedback. Dynamic responses of the system are obtained by applying the static model of actuatorsubstructure coupling with perfect bonding. For the suppression of the low modes several arrangements of the sensor/actuator pairs are proposed and numerically investigated.
