The macroscopic dynamic behavior of damaged brittle solids is investigated. Special attention is devoted to the analysis of wave attenuation and dispersion in micro‐cracked solids. Several methods are discussed and numerical examples are presented, to show the dependence of the wave attenuation coefficient and the effective wave velocity in damaged brittle solids on the wave frequency, crack‐size and crack‐density.
