The conditions, under which the partial differential equations of the linear, time harmonic elastodynamics can be replaced by the corresponding boundary integral equation, are investigated. It is found by an example that this is the case, whenever the domains are normal in the simple or extended sense. Further, a counter‐example known in the literature is examined and is proven to be erroneous, thus corroborating our findings.
