The influence of shear deformation and rotatory inertia on the dynamics of a beam under a moving harmonic force is studied. Solutions in the whole range of parameters for the shear beam and the Rayleigh beam on elastic foundation are presented. The obtained results are compared with solutions for the Timoshenko beam and the Bernoulli‐Euler beam. The analysis makes it possible to determine separately the influence of shear deformations and rotatory inertia on the solutions of the generalized Mathews problem.
