In this paper the solution is presented of the problem of unsteady Stokes flow in a semi‐infinite distensible pipe, with initial conditions given at the pipe inlet. The solution is obtained through an eigenfunction expansion, utilizing Van Kampen's method for the determination of the expansion coefficients. In this way a complete description is obtained of the velocity and pressure profiles throughout the pipe.
