Patterns of parallel fractures are studied by means of methods of the theory of point processes. It is shown that two hardcore models do not fit sufficiently well data which result from four‐point bending experiments of coatings on steel substrates. A new soft‐core model turns out to be more appropriate. It can be used to estimate physical parameters.
