A method is proposed for the linearization of quadratic programming problems in discrete elastoplasticity. The method, which is based on certain propositions on the activation of the yield modes, presents the advantages of both the optimization algorithms and the linear system solvers. Deterministic and stochastic applications illustrate the theory.
