A system of diffusion‐reaction equations modelling polymerization is considered. Especially the large time behaviour is studied. It can be shown that the system has a well‐defined asymptotic state which can be described by explicit formulae. These formulae allow the identification of the essential parameters — diffusion coefficient and reaction constant — from appropriate experimental data.
