The existence of a denumerable set of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions is proved for the problem: g′ + (λ 2 ‐ λv ‐1 u) g = 0, h′ + λ 2 h = ‐g with h(0) = h′(0) = h(1) = h′(1) = 0. The procedure involves a suitable transformation, asymptotic expansions and complex variable techniques.
