In this note a general solution of the linearized problems of a plane laminar jet is presented. The basic model is that of an incompressible homogeneous thin jet into a medium at rest (Schlichting's model); but any different situation can be taken into account in a linearized form. In fact the analysis is performed in terms of a generic function F and the solution is presented by means of integrals of Legendre functions without specifying its expression. Three examples are considered: jets into a moving medium, jets of conducting fluids in the presence of a magnetic field and jets in a non‐homogeneous medium.
