A simplified version of von Karman equations for vibrations of simply supported rectilinear plates is used to discuss vibrations of various triangular plates. An approximate analysis indicates that, when the amplitude of vibrations is equal to the thickness of the plate, the fundamental frequency is higher by about 40% as compared to the corresponding frequency for infinitesimal vibrations. A heuristic formula is given to calculate the frequencies when more than one mode of vibration is present.
