Abstract This paper deals with the behavior of a first‐come‐first‐served single channel queueing system with batch arrivals of variable size and a service rate biased towards maintaining the queue length at a pre‐assigned fixed number N. Laplace transform of the distribution function for queue length is obtained. Further, an approximate value of the generating function for queue length is obtained explicitly. Finally, some particular cases are discussed.
