This paper deals with the stresses and diplacements of elastic media, based upon the theory of finite elasticity, perforated by a square or triangular hole with rounded corners subjected to biaxial tension at infinity. The material is assumed to be in the state of plane strain. The method of successive approximation is used in connection with the complex variable method of plane elasticity. Numerical results due to the second‐order elasticity are given for hoop stresses and displacements along the edge of hole, and compared with those predicted by classical theory of elasticity.
