This article deals with the thermal stresses in an isotropic circular disc or infinite circular cylinder due to the action of a discontinuous temperature field at initial state. Applying Dirac's delta function, practical problems were solved for the two different states of stress in a circular disc due to instantaneous line heat source, that is, case (A), thermal stress in circular disc due to instantaneous line heat source on the concentric are, case (B), thermal stress in circular disc due to instantaneous line heat source along its radius. Numerical work carried out for the case (A).
