When two bodies of different elastic properties are cemented together, due to mutual restraint, the stresses along and in the neighbourhood of the joint get affected. In this paper one such problem is studied. Two finite bars are joined together, and the compound bar thus formed is pulled in tension. A general solution has been given in the form of multiple Fourier series satisfying all the boundary conditions including those at the interface. Some numerical results are given for two examples.
