A thin uniform infinite stretched plate is subjected to certain boundary conditions along a half axis, the plate being either simply supported, clamped or free there. The diffraction of a plane transverse displacement wave by the boundary is discussed. This problem is analogous to the well known Sommerfeld diffraction problem of optics.
