The cover picture shows two jugglers in a circus arena on their unicycles, juggling clubs, symbolizing nitriles, and rings, representing chloride ions. Thereby, one of the jugglers represents [RuCl 4 (RC≡N) 2 ] 2–/– and the other one [RuCl 4 (RC≡N) 2 ] 0/– , whilst their hands act as the relevant oxidation states of ruthenium. When the complexes are oxidized or reduced, then RC≡N and Cl - ligand exchange occurs as symbolized by the juggling props. The show takes place against the “Cirque du Ruthénium” sign which in concert with the blue “electron balls” symbolizes the electric field, with the unicycles representing the cathode and anode.
