The cover picture shows , surrounded by violet iodine vapor, the final reaction sequence leading to trinitropropylammonium salts with various selected unusual anions, such as periodate. Such anions are being evaluated as potential alternatives to perchlorate, which is known to interfere with iodine in the thyroid gland. Oxygen content, density, thermal stability and performance are important parameters to be investigated in the regard as potential high energy dense oxidizers in solid rocket propellants. Apart from standard spectroscopic characterization, also uncommon 33 S and 127 I NMR resonances are presented. More details can be found in the communication by Cornelia C. Unger, Thomas M. Klapötke and Burkhard Krumm on pp. 1.
