The Cover Feature shows atomic interactions in Eu 2 GaPt 2 , the first gallium representative of the Ca 2 SiIr 2 type (Eu – blue, Ga – green, Pt – red spheres). A characteristic feature of this structural pattern are close Pt–Ga (blue) and Pt–Pt (red) distances. The latter form linear chains of Peierls type where the longer Pt–Pt contacts are additionally bridged by Ga atoms. Analysis of chemical bonding with the real‐space techniques (QTAIM and ELI‐D) reveals such atomic arrangements as formed by the two‐center Pt–Pt bonds combined with the four‐center Ga–Pt–Pt–Ga interactions. The [GaPt 2 ] polyanion binds to the europium matrix via polar interactions (pseudo lone‐pairs) at the Ga atoms (yellow ‘clouds’). Details are discussed in the article by Rainer Pöttgen et al. on page 1338 ff .
