The cover picture shows the photophysically active [Mo 6 I 8 (NCS) 6 ] 2– ion which exhibits remarkable optical properties in solid state and in solution. Excitation with UV/VIS light induces a red luminescence (phosphorescence) from excited triplet states. This luminescence is successively quenched with increasing O 2 partial pressure, as a result of the generation of singlet oxygen O 2 ( 1 Δ g ). The red luminescence shown is represented by (TBA) 2 [Mo 6 I 8 (NCS) 6 ] incorporated into a silicon disc (which is transparent under day light).
