The tungsten iodide W 3 I 8 is obtained by thermal conversion of W 3 I 12 . The crystal structure of W 3 I 8 was solved and refined by means of powder X‐ray diffraction techniques. The structure is based on a nearly trigonal tungsten cluster core, with six edge‐capping iodido ligands and three apical iodido ligands, of which two are shared between clusters to generate chains. Cluster chains in the structure are arranged following the pattern of a sinusoidal wave.
