The cover picture shows a photograph of an O 2 PtF 6 covered corundum sheath inside a Schlenk tube illuminated by the light of a microscope which reveals the ruby red colour of the platinum compound. A match serves as a size reference. A part of a construction sketch of the apparatus used for this reaction is depicted on the lower right side. It shows a cooling finger sealing a fluorine flow furnace. The sketch also shows the exchangeable sheath of the cooling finger as well as a boat that holds the material to be fluorinated. The method used represents a new and facile synthesis of O 2 PtF 6 which yields the compound in form of crystalline aggregates starting from commercially available PtO 2 ·xH 2 O. Its identity and purity was evidenced by powder X‐ray diffraction, Raman and infrared spectroscopy.More details are discussed in the article by Rudel and Kraus on pp. 2404ff.
