The cover picture illustrates the colorful structural variety of polyhalide chemistry. Many different mono‐ and dianions and even tri‐ and tetraanions are known. The cover picture shows exemplary structures for all homologous fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine. These are the monoanions starting from the simplest conceivable polyhalide [F 3 ] – , which was only observed the gas‐phase and under cryogenic conditions, through [Cl 5 ] – , [I 7 ] – and [Br 9 ] – characterized by single crystal X‐ray analysis. Molecular orbital graphics describe the bonding situation in the in the presented structures either as donor‐acceptor complexes or multi‐center bonds. The nature of these compounds was extensively studied by quantum chemical methods, exemplified by the Schrödinger Equation.More details are discussed in the article by Heike Haller and Sebastian Riedel on pp. 1281ff.
