The absolute intensities of the C–O stretching, metal–carbon stretching, and metal–C–O bending vibrations of dipole moment free metal carbonyls were measured and compared with published data. The atomic polarizations for these compounds were calculated from the IR intensities. Atomic polarizations of Fe(CO) 5 and of Mn 2 (CO) 10 based on IR intensities compare well to those obtained from measurements of dielectric constants and refractive indices.
