Chlorination of the phosphane selenide i Pr t Bu 2 PSe with PhICl 2 leads to the compound i Pr t Bu 2 PSe 2 Cl 2 , which contains a P–Se–SeCl 2 moiety and is formally a phosphane selenide complex of selenium dichloride. Two polymorphs of the product were identified by X‐ray structure analysis. The analogous reaction with t Bu 3 PSe gave an oil, presumably t Bu 3 PSe 2 Cl 2 , from which small quantities of t Bu 3 PSe 3 Cl 2 were obtained and characterized by X‐ray structure analysis.
