The multiple ways in which N 2 can be coordinated to FeMo‐co, the Fe 7 MoS 9 C cluster at the active site of the enzyme nitrogenase, are catalogued and interpreted, in the context of other N 2 ‐activating metal complexes. N 2 bound to FeMo‐co is located in a unique gallery of surrounding hydrogen atoms, proposed to be a key factor in the conversion to NH 3 .
