Two complexes, cis ‐[MnL 2 (NCS) 2 ] ( 1 ) and cis ‐[ZnL 2 (NCS) 2 ] ( 2 ) with asymmetrical substituted triazole ligands [L = 3,4‐dimethyl‐5‐(2‐pyridyl)‐1,2,4‐triazole], were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV/Vis and FT‐IR spectroscopy as well as thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), powder XRD, and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. In the complexes, each L molecule adopts a chelating bidentate mode by the nitrogen atoms of pyridyl and triazole. Both complexes have a similar distorted octahedral [ M N 6 ] core ( M = Mn 2+ and Zn 2+ ) with two NCS – ions in the cis position.
