A family of new lanthanide compounds [Ln(HBIC) 3 ] n [Ln = Ce ( 1 ), Dy ( 2 ), Er ( 3 ); H 2 BIC = 1 H ‐benzimidazole‐2‐carboxylic acid] was obtained under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, X‐ray single crystal diffraction, thermal and luminescent analyses. X‐ray single crystal diffraction shows that compounds 1 – 3 are isotypic and exhibit 2D networks constructed by bridging‐chelating HBIC – linkers and lanthanide ion nodes, in which each central lanthanide atom is surrounded by five flexible HBIC – ligands with two kinds of new coordination modes, yielding a distorted two‐capped triangle prism arrangement. Moreover, the thermal and photoluminescence properties of 1 – 3 were also investigated.
