Single crystals of CeRu 0.5 Ni 0.5 Al can be obtained from a Ce‐Ni melt using elements as starting materials. The presented compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma (no. 62) with a = 700.38(7), b = 416.92(4) and c = 1562.84(16) pm in the LaNiAl structure type. The compound shows an unusual temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility for T < 20 K although the cerium cations exhibit no local moment behavior. This feature is also visible in the electrical resistivity.
