The condensation of the amino groups of 4‐(4′‐nitrophenylazo)aniline or of 4,4′‐diaminoazo‐benzene with 2‐oxocarboxylates at chlorido bridged half‐sandwich complexes [(C 5 Me 5 ) M Cl 2 ] 2 ( M = Rh, Ir), [(p‐cymene)RuCl 2 ] 2 or of [(C 5 Me 5 )(Co(CO)I 2 ] provides a convenient way to attach azodyes to a metal ion via an 2‐iminocarboxylate ligand.
