Two complexes containing ( n Bu) 2 Sn 4 O 4 L 4 (L = salicylaminoaryl alcohols) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and 1 H, 13 C, and 119 Sn NMR as well as IR spectroscopy. The crystal structure of complex 2 . 2 was determined by X‐ray crystallography. It consists of three, four‐member Sn 2 O 2 rings in a ladder‐like, structural arrangement with four tin centers, bridged by four, three‐coordinate μ 3 ‐oxygen atoms. The dimeric distannoxane have two different, pentacoordinate tin atoms, where the Schiff base acts as monodentate ligand. The complexes were subjected to a thiobarbituric acid, reactive substance (TBARS) assay, which displayed a higher antioxidant activity than the α‐tocopherol and Butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT), used as positive controls.
