The cover picture shows two projections of the title compound, C 78 (2)Cl 30 , which represents a new member of the growing family of fullerene chlorides and bromides. It has been obtained by an ampoule reaction of fullerene C 78 (isomer 2) with SbCl 5 at 330–340°C for 2–3 days. Addition pattern of 30 chlorine atoms on the C 78 (2) cage is characterized by C 2 symmetry and contains the pattern of C 78 (2)Cl 18 , the structure of which was known before. Other members of the C 78 Cl n family can be found on the picture together with further known chlorides and bromides of C 60 , C 70 , C 76 , C 80 , and C 90 , which were obtained by selective halogenation using reagents like SbCl 5 , VCl 4 , mixture of TiCl 4 with Br 2 , or neat Br 2 . More details are discussed in the article by S. I. Troyanov, E. Kemnitz et al. on p. 1783ff.
