A new preparative route for Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+∂ superconducting rods, based on the use of a modified Laser Zone Melting system, is presented. It allows to zone melt one or several cylindrical precursors simultaneously under an in‐plane geometry. The resultant textured superconductors exhibit a microstructure similar to that of Laser Floating Zone melted fibres and cylinders. The transport critical current and current density values obtained for these products compare favourably with values typically reported in the literature for BSCCO superconductors.
