Two new bis(phosphinimino)methanide complexes of divalent ytterbium, [{(Me 3 SiNPPh 2 ) 2 CH} 2 Yb], and strontium, [{(Me 3 SiNPPh 2 ) 2 CH} 2 Sr], were synthesized from the corresponding metal diiodides and of K{CH(PPh 2 NSiMe 3 ) 2 }. Alternatively, the ytterbium compound could also be obtained starting from [{(Me 3 SiNPPh 2 ) 2 CH}YbI(THF) 2 ]. A comparison of the properties with the analogues compounds [{(Me 3 SiNPPh 2 ) 2 CH} 2 M] (M = Ca, Ba, Sm, Eu) is given.
