2,2′‐Bipyridine (bpy) acts as both chelate and bridging ligand in the novel complex [(μ‐η 1 ,η 1 ‐bpy){Pd(Me)(bpy)} 2 ](SbF 6 ) 2 . The structure determination (crystallised in monoclinic C 2/ c ) reveals the unusual bridging behaviour of bpy. The title complex, together with the derivative containing 4,4′‐dimethyl‐bipyridine (dmbpy) as ligand, together with the monomolecular precursor complexes [PdCl(Me)(N–N)] (N–N = bpy or dmbpy) were fully characterised by multinuclear NMR‐ and UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy.
