Calcium carbonate was crystallized in a tubular reactor with crystallization times of the order of seconds from aqueous solutions of calcium chloride and sodium carbonate without additives. By a rapid temperature change during this time, both the morphology and the phase composition (calcite, aragonite, vaterite) changed dramatically. Superstructures consisting of smaller nanoparticles and recrystallization phenomena that otherwise require the presence of additives were formed.
