Reacting the bidentate ligand 2‐(methylselenomethyl)‐ 1H ‐benzimidazole (msb) with AgBF 4 in CH 3 CN did not produce the expected [Ag(msb) 2 ] + ion with two five‐membered chelate rings but the dimeric [Ag 2 (msb) 2 ] 2+ , isolated and crystallized from acetonitrile/methanol as {[Ag(msb)(CH 3 CN)] 2 }(BF 4 ) 2 with six‐membered chelate rings Ag‐Ag‐Se‐C‐C‐N involving a Ag‐Ag bond of 3.156(1) Å distance. DFT calculations reproduce the observed molecular structure of the dication.
