An inorganic‐organic vanadate compound [V 6 O 12 (OCH 3 ) 4 (dmbpy) 4 ·2H 2 O] (dmbpy = 4,4′‐dimethyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV spectra and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in monoclinic system, space group P2 1 /n (No. 14), a = 11.317(2) Å, b = 18.557(3) Å, c = 14.630(3) Å, β = 101.58(4)°, V = 3012.5(9) Å 3 , and Z = 2. The crystal structure consists of a new hexavanadate cluster and four dmbpy groups which directly coordinated to vanadium through nitrogen atoms. The hydrogen bonds contribute to the formation of the three‐dimensional supramolecular structure. Fluorescent analyses show that it exhibits intense blue photoluminescence in DMF solution at room temperature.
